Jennifer & Kyohei

 

Meet Jen and Kyohei. They live in Tokyo, Japan (though Jen is from Canada) where Jen is a Video Game Producer and Kyohei is in Infrastructure Consulting Sales. They met at an international singles mixer in Tokyo where Kyohei approached Jen thinking 'Wow, she's tall!'. They got to talking and hit it off! "While we live in Tokyo, Kyouhei’s parents are only a short drive away and we have a great relationship. For our part, we both plan to take parental leave –Kyouhei is planning on taking a whole year off. Birth by surrogacy is incredibly rare among Japanese people, and the level of understanding of the process and acceptance in this country varies depending on which community you find yourself apart of, but we have been blessed with the acceptance and kindness our family, friends, and employers have shown us throughout the process so far. We are really looking forward to involving them more as things move forward."

Quick overview on a few things you need to know about becoming a surrogate in Canada: 

  • You must be a female of 21-49 years of age

  • Have delivered one or more child(ren) of your own

  • Have experienced healthy pregnancies and births

  • Lead a healthy lifestyle and be physically/mentally healthy in general

Surrogates in Canada are: 

  • Reimbursed all of their expenses. (average $20,000-30,000)

  • Can apply for 15 weeks of maternity leave (if eligible)

  • Have independent legal representation and a legal contract

  • Will travel to the Intended Parents clinic - all costs covered
